Attempted Murder Charges Added for Cedar Rapids Men in Iowa City Drug Debt Shooting Case

Peter Francis Thullen and Andrew David Meyer, both of Cedar Rapids, have received additional felony charges stemming from an incident on Nov. 18.

Officials have added attempted murder charges for 19- and 20-year-old Cedar Rapids men police say were involved in an Iowa City shooting over a drug debt this month.

Peter Francis Thullen, 20, of Cedar Rapids, has been charged with attempted murder, and Andrew David Meyer, 19, of Cedar Rapids, has been charged with attempted murder-joint criminal conduct.

Police say on Nov. 18 at around 9:13 p.m., Thullen and Meyer went to 719 E. Bloomington St. to collect a drug debt. Thullen brought with him a loaded handgun, provided by Meyer, to use against the victim for intimidation, police say. Police say Thullen admitted to a witness that he shot the victim, who survived potentially-fatal injuries.

Police say the victim called emergency responders and was treated for injuries that otherwise would have resulted in his death.

Both charges are class B felonies, and the men remain in the Johnson County Jail.Bond has been set at $100,000 cash only.

These are on top of other felony charges.

Thullen has been charged with first-degree burglary, a class B felony, and going armed with intent, a class D felony. Meyer has been charged with first-degree burglary/joint criminal conduct, a class B felony, and going armed with intent/joint criminal conduct, a class D felony.

A joint investigation by the Iowa City and Cedar Rapids Police Departments led to the arrest of the men. The arrest was made by the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
