Alleged Assault That Began in the Lunchroom Ends in Arrest

University student being charged with assault and false imprisonment for detaining woman in cafeteria.

A University of Iowa student allegedly held a woman against her will in a college dorm cafeteria on Tuesday, according to multiple news outlets.

Jiachang Hu, 18, of Hillcrest Residence Hall W10, has been charged with assault and false imprisonment following the incident in the Hillcrest lunchroom, according to the Cedar Rapids Gazette.

(Hu) allegedly grabbed the woman’s head and arm and would not allow her to leave lunch at Hillcrest around 12:25 p.m. Tuesday.

Hu is accused of then forcing the woman back to his room. There, he took control of her and placed his hand over her mouth, making it hard for her to breathe, according to the Iowa City Press-Citizen.

Hu also allegedly bit the woman's arm and she told police she was afraid of Hu, according to the Gazette report.
