City Of Iowa City Announces Its Fourth Of July Holiday Schedule

In celebration of Independence Day, City of Iowa City administrative offices will be closed on Thursday, July 4, along with the Animal Care and Adoption Center, Landfill, Library, Senior Center, and Transportation Services Office. Additionally, the City fireworks display will take place during the Iowa City Jazz Festival on Friday, July 5 at dusk, around 9:45 p.m., from Hubbard Park near the Iowa Memorial Union. 

Holiday changes to City services are as follows:

AIRPORT: The office will be closed on Thursday, July 4, but Jet Air will be open from 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and 24-hour self-serve fuel will be available.

LANDFILL: The landfill will be closed on Thursday, July 4, but normal hours will be in effect on Friday, July 5 and Saturday, July 6.

PARKING: Parking ramps will not be staffed on the holiday. Normal operations will be in effect on Friday, July 5.

PARKS AND RECREATION: Offices will be closed, but both the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center and the Scanlon Gymnasium/Mercer Park Aquatic Center will be open on Thursday, July 4 until 5 p.m. Indoor pools at both recreation centers will close at 4 p.m. City Park Pool will remain open until 8 p.m.

POLICE: Offices for administration and records will be closed on Thursday, July 4. Patrol will operate on its normal schedule.

SENIOR CENTER: Senior Dining will not be serving meals on Thursday, July 4, as the Senior Center will be closed. Schedules will return to normal on Friday, July 5.

SOLID WASTE: Refuse, recycling, and yard waste will not be collected on Thursday, July 4. Residents on Thursday and Friday routes should have materials placed at the curb by 7 a.m. on Friday, July 5, although the City cannot determine exactly when items will be collected. 

TRANSIT: City buses will not run on Thursday, July 4. Friday and Saturday schedules will operate normally, with detours caused by Jazz Festival rerouting and road construction still in effect.

WATER: The Water Division will be closed on Thursday, July 4, but if a water emergency occurs, call the 24-hour emergency number at 319-356-5166.

Normal City operations will resume on Friday, July 5.
