Who hasn't been waiting all winter to kickback on a patio for happy hour cocktails with a group of friends after work, take a break from a long bike ride with an icy cold beer or enjoy a glass of wine with your significant other at the end of the week? Iowa City has 65 businesses that serve alcohol outdoors such as Bluebird Diner and Atlas World Grill, and Johnson County has a total of 119 different establishments. The Iowa Arts Festival held in Iowa City kicks off another round of Iowa City's much beloved Summer of the Arts on June 7-9.

The woman was hiding from the man in the tent with her daughter. She had been in an intimate relationship with the man for four years prior to the incident.
A transient is facing a serious felony burglary charge after he used a knife to enter a woman's tent and threatened to kill her and her family members. According to an Iowa City Police criminal complaint, on May 15 Larry Alan Pyle, 48, address unknown, was irate when he arrived at 2000 S. Gilbert Street to confront a woman that he had been in an intimate relationship with for four years near a tent where she was staying. Police say Pyle shouted at the woman, telling her he was going to kill her and her family members, and pushed her into a pan of noodles she had been cooking. The woman retreated to a nearby tent and zipped up the entrance. Pyle then allegedly used a knife to cut through the side of the tent and said "You're going to die…
The marijuana was found after a search warrant was served by the Johnson County Drug Task Force in March.
An Iowa City man is facing felony drug charges after a drug warrant was served at his Davenport Street residence in March, and a search revealed a large amount of marijuana and thousands of dollars in cash. According to Iowa City Police criminal complaints, Gerald Lawrence Gerard, 40, of Iowa City was arrested last week after the Johnson County Drug Task Force searched his residence at 1102 East Davenport Street on March 1. The officers searching the residence found over ten pounds of marijuana and $20,535 in cash, much of it found together in a large safe in the house's basement, according to the complaint. They also reported finding digital scales, drug paraphernalia, and "items related to the manufacture of marijuana" in the residence…

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for several counties in Central and Eastern Iowa as strong storms are predicted to arrive in the area by the late afternoon and evening.
Iowa's record breaking streak without a tornado may come to an end tonight as forecasters are predicting strong storms could be coming into the area. The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities has issued a tornado watch until 10:00 p.m. Sunday for much of Eastern Iowa including Johnson County. Despite a flurry of construction projects around the Iowa City area, the demand for real estate is still on the rise. The latest reports from the Iowa City Area Association of Realtors indicate that home sales and prices rose last month compared with last year. The average sale price of a home in the Iowa City area was $201,080 in April, a jump from $198,086 the same time a year ago. From January to April, 542 residential units were sold in the area, with Iowa City accounting for 175. In April 2012, 526 housing units were sold. I heard on Iowa Public Radio very early this morning (Mon.) that a tornado touched down in Huxley, IA. No damage reports yet. A tree is down near Mark Twain Elementary School this morning. The tree crushed someone's fence and just missed the house. Be careful if you're taking your child to Twain this morning. You might have to take a detour.   more ›
