The Michigan Wolverines were hoping for a season sweep over the Iowa women’s basketball team on Sunday in Ann Arbor but ultimately came up short. The Hawkeyes over came a 9-point deficit early in the second half to defeat No. 23 Michigan, 63-57. “It was [our] defense and composure,” head coach Lisa Bluder said about the Hawkeyes’ dominant second half performance. “We held them to no field goals for the last seven minutes of the game, and Bethany Doolittle came to play today.” The Wolverines lone basket in the last seven minutes came after Iowa had sealed the win. Iowa's annual big bash for pediatric health fundraising made another top ten list.
The University of Iowa's Dance Marathon seems to get a bit bigger every year, so it's no surprised it was named to a list of the 10 biggest college fundraisers, but college rating site thebestcolleges.org. The school also promotes Family Events and Mini-Dance Marathons for K-12 students throughout the year. It’s all in the name of funding pediatric patients at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital. The $1…

The student leaders made a presentation to the Iowa Board of Regents today about the success of Dance Marathon 2012. Together, they raised nearly $1.9 million. "On the field, we may be rivals, but once a year we come together to give to a cause much greater than us," said Elyse Meardon, a UI senior and executive director of this year's UI Dance Marathon team. At UI, they had 1,500 dancers, who stayed on their feet for 24 …

By Sara Epstein Moninger Spectator - the University of Iowa They’re quite inspiring, the students who join University of Iowa Dance Marathon. They deliver one-on-one attention and fun activities every week to oncology patients at UI Children’s Hospital (allowing the kids’ families a much-needed break). They organize group excursions to amusement parks and museums to help divert focus from the momentous challenges the children are facing. They immerse themselves in ongoing fundraising and awareness building. And each winter their efforts culminate in “the Big Event,” a 24-hour dance marathon in the Iowa Memorial Union, where they celebrate young cancer survivors as well as patients fighting for their lives, remember those who have passed…
