Parents ruin sports..

Alan I agree. Parents coach to get their kids and kids friends a leg up. Kids are choosen too basedRead More on parents and kids being friends. Take AAU and All-Stars and positions in each sport. Parents coach because they want their kid in prime positions, kids are friends with certain kids or because a family does not like someone but the kid has talent not playing. You need "out of area" coaches to come and determine if a kid is "that good" to be at the next level not "locals" whom coach because that is the only way the kid will get playing time.

sportsnut: Seems like a perfect opportunity for you to get involved in coaching... If nothingRead More else, becoming a coach will give you a voice in the league to lobby for equal playing time for all kids, and rotation of positions--particularly at the lower levels.

I really like Rudock's play at QB. You expect mistakes from a first-year starter, and yes, his pickRead More against Northern Illinois cost the Hawks the game. But Rudock has great pocket presence, enough mobility to force opposing D-lines to worry about contain, and most important, he thinks and reacts quickly. Rudock may not be the fiery leader Drew Tate was, but he executes Greg Davis's offense very well, doesn't dwell on his mistakes, and is very much a thinking man's QB. As a former defensive player, I as a rule HATE quarterbacks, but he's the one QB I LIKE!

Not surprised about UNI beating ISU. The Panthers have usually been tough. UNI routinely beats NIU.Read More While NIU pulled off the upset of UI, they are also getting tougher. The "minor conferences" are becoming as strong as the major ones.

Possibly the Hawkeyes were not sure of their positions. There were no roster flyers in the paper orRead More handed out at the game. If you don't know your position how can you play it? It was interesting to see all the PAULAS issued. I'm sure the county will reap benefits in court. It also seemed quite distracting with the new scoreboards. Not much football information and smaller characters but plenty of advertisements. Want you advertisers to know we will avoid all of you that advertise in Kinnick Stadium.
