Jon Daniel, angry young man, and Jim Ardis, mayor of Peoria. (The mayor's photo is on the right, if you couldn't tell.)

The article said the twitter account had only about 4 dozen followers...so why Mr. Mayor are you soRead More worked up? Really...you let these punks get to you that much? Your reaction was so over the top I think you need to question if you are the right person to lead your city.

It is truly disturbing that there is more than one judge in Peoria willing to sign their name to aRead More warrant that sweeps up every device with a built-in memory to address tweets that are open communication. Why didn't they just go ahead and freeze their bank accounts and impound their cars, too?

I see some of the Hitler youth ie Bod and his servant Flora. Ok Bob now I take offense at yourRead More comment and believe you should be punished but because of the internet I'm not quit sure if was actually you who made the whole post so I will send in some thugs round up every one near to you, take all the devices and put you all in little rooms and question you all for a few hours to get to the bottom of it. .. It's the damn internet to do what this moron mayor did is an offense to all Americans. The mayor the judges and the police chief do not have what it takes to be trusted agents of the state. End of story. go pound sand bob!

Carl Babcock: And what's wrong with getting high, Carl?...Do you fear losing a world where everyoneRead More lives under your boot so you can delude yourself with a feeling of superiority? If you want to accuse someone for lying for their own selfish needs, maybe you should look in the mirror first instead of psychologically projecting your personality traits onto others!
Carl Babcock March 10, 2014 at 09:52 pm
Esoteric, Why are you so hostile? 1-Getting high makes a person a hazardous driver, for instance.Read More Better to get high on giving oneself to making the world a better place. 2-not feeling superior, just sharing info! 3-not accusing anyone of being a liar, just sharing info to someone who has been misinformed. 4- Sorry I touched a nerve. Please don't take it personally. Peace.

Spreading misinformation doesn't help anyone.
Proposed legislation could make it legal for Iowans to buy and set off some fireworks, including Roman candles.

Right now you can get a permit to shoot until last year you only needed house insurance and $50.Read More Last year they require Trining in fireworks or a trained professional to be the one to shoot them. I think they should be sold here but should have the old regulations, and maybe a rule on how much open space you need to be able to shoot them.

You can buy Cigarette Lighters, Sparklers, Starting fluid, Kerosene, Gasoline, Solvents, and TarRead More & Bug Remover. Which produce sales tax revenue. And hundreds more. Drop the ban. Enjoy the new tax revenue ( Choice here ) 30-Day usage. Adult must show ID. Do not use 500 Feet from apartment complex, 1000 feet from shopping center, 1000 feet from any private or public owned school, hospital, Zoo, etc. Make it safe for everyone. Let' show Iowa we can be adults, and show our children we do care about safety. Let us make the choice.
David Tiffany March 10, 2014 at 07:01 am
The reporting is inaccurate. The ban was imposed because too many fireworks - explosive, notRead More sparklers - were causing severe injuries and major fires. Fireworks ARE explosives. I do not want us to be another Missouri. I want our citizens - especially our children - to be safe. Keep the law as it is.

Interesting. The Republicans won't finance long-term unemployment benefits unless they areRead More "paid for" by spending cuts elsewhere. Well here's an idea. Pay for them by cutting taxpayer-funded subsidies to oil companies, who make billions of dollars in profits each quarter. It's obscene to subsidize wealthy and environmentally unfriendly oil companies while denying benefits to the long-term unemployed.

Keep putting your salvation in govt and you will reap a life sentence in poverty.
Maria Houser Conzemius December 19, 2013 at 11:12 am
Tank, both Republicans and Democrats are doing an excellent job of proving that our government isRead More dysfunctional at every level: federal, state, county, city, and school board. Just watch the Iowa City Community School District Board of Directors ruthlessly repress dissent as they close neighborhood schools and build new ones in surrounding suburbs to facilitate white flight and the collapse of constructive, walkable city neighborhoods. Yet despite constant increases in funding to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars, they can't seem to remember to save out money for teachers and maintenance.

Obamacare holds much promise, but that promise has yet to be realized for millions who have tried toRead More log in and purchase a health care plan but have as yet been unable to. Apparently, California and other states have successfully signed up their residents with health insurance plans under Obamacare. There's hope that soon or eventually everyone will be able to sign up, but that hope hasn't been realized yet.

In God we Trust on our money, God in pledge of allegiance and the 4th verse on National Anthem. TheRead More President finishes all major major speeches with "God bless the United States of America", oh and your hand on the bible in promising to tell whole truth in court. So Of course we are a Christian nation. Even marriage was founded within religion that liberals both despise yet want inclusion in this religious founded ceremony. Amen.
Mr. Clean November 11, 2013 at 08:13 am
Seriously? You don't think marriage exists outside of Christianity? Before Christianity? Wow.

It's funny: Kevin Swanson says something very stupid about the Girl Scouts, and the only way we areRead More allowed yo show our "tolerance" for his pernicious stupidity is to remain silent, i.e. censor ourselves, and let Swanson's hateful diatribe pass without comment. I "tolerate" people like Swanson the same way I "tolerate" hemorrhoids: bear the pain until they go away. Steve, why do you hate America and true freedom?

According to Paul Krugman on ABC's 10/13/13 "This Week," California's transition to theRead More Obamacare exchanges has gone very well for 30 million people. That's 10% of the U.S. population of 300 million. The technological difficulties of the Obamacare rollout would be more prominent in the public's eye than they are if the Tea Party wing of the Republican Party hadn't shut down the government. Krugman said these software problems will be fixed because California has already done it right.
