Widespread Threads: The Backstory

The story of Widespread Thread's purpose and origins.

Widespread Threads, owned by Sergeant Bluff, Iowa natives & University of Iowa students Jake Thomas, Jerid Schumacher, Taylor Grote and Levi Maxfield features a unique opportunity for customers to both purchase quality apparel as well as give back to the community.

When a shirt is purchased, another shirt is donated to the Kids In Distressed Situations (K.I.D.S) Foundation.  Also, when a Kokua bracelet is purchased, 100% of the profit goes to a worthy cause such as a charity or random act of kindness. When a Silver Lining bracelet is purchased, 100% of those profits go to the Children's Hospital of Iowa City's Silver Lining Program.  The Summer 2013 line features 7 Men's shirts and 5 Women's shirts all of which incorporate designs that promote positivity and draw influence from organic and urban elements.

Widespread Threads was initially conceived by Jake Thomas and Jerid Schumacher in August of 2012, when they planned to sell bracelets with the proceeds going to charity.  Through growth and expansion (including Levi Maxfield and Taylor Grote joining the duo), their plan has morphed into a full on apparel company with the charitable motivation still remaining.
