VIDEO: Joan Jett the Dachshund is a Sweetheart. Iowa City Adopt this Pet of the Week

Every Saturday we feature another animal at the Iowa City Animal Shelter who is need of a good home. This week, we meet Joan Jett, one of a few dogs that was abandoned in the county and brought to the shelter.

Liz Ford, animal care technician at the , introduces us this week to Joan Jett, a five-year-old dachshund who was one of several found abandoned in Johnson County and put up for adoption at the Shelter. Ford said Joan is a sweetheart of a dog, at times playful and other times mellow, who would fit with several types of family.

Ford said that Joan will be having surgery on her eye this week to correct a painful sore. She said that while a sore like this might result in a dog being euthanized at another shelter, the resources from the Iowa City Animal Shelter Foundation provide them the opportunity to give Joan a new lease on life. I'll update the story later and let people know how Joan's surgery went, but for now good luck Ms. Jett!

For more information on adopting Joan Jett, you can call the Animal Shelter at: (319) 356-5295. Or visit the shelter at 4852 Sand Rd SE.
