Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz made it official Friday, naming the 6-3, 205-pound sophomore the Hawkeyes starting QB for the opener next Saturday against Northern Illinois.

“We plan to start Jake in our season opener,” Ferentz said in a statement, “and we are all confident he will do a quality job.”

Rudock was the lead QB in spring drills. He took all of the snaps with the No. 1 offense in last Saturday night’s scrimmage.
