Iowa Breaks Losing Streak With Win Over Missouri State, UNI Pounds Drake

College football review week two.

Sorry Iowa fans, your team didn't dominate enough Saturday for you to complain about the backup quarterback not playing enough. But in compensation for that, at least you can complain that they didn't dominate enough for the backup quarterback to play at all.

You still get to complain is what I'm saying.

Plus the Hawkeyes won, for the first time in seven games. Not too shabby?

Iowa State had a bye week and will host the Hawkeyes next week in Ames.

The Northern Iowa Panthers could be the best football team in the state at the moment, as they played ugly and still won by an ugly big margin over Drake. They moved to 2-0 on the year with the win.

Jake Rudock and Mark Weisman each ran for a pair of touchdowns and Iowa beat Missouri State 28-14 on Saturday, snapping a seven-game losing streak dating back to 2012.

Weisman had 180 yards rushing for the Hawkeyes (1-1), who prevailed despite a somewhat shaky performance against an FCS opponent.

Weisman scored on runs of 10 and 3 yards to help the Hawkeyes take a 21-0 lead late in the third quarter. Missouri State answered with touchdowns on back-to-back plays from scrimmage early in the fourth quarter, pulling within 21-14 with 14:15 to go.

Northern Iowa beats Drake, 45-14, improves to 2-0 (Waterloo Courier)

Northern Iowa built a big first-half lead thanks to big plays from the defense and special teams before finishing a 45-14 victory over Drake Saturday at the UNI-Dome.

Now 2-0 overall, the ninth-ranked Panthers beat the Bulldogs (0-2) for the fourth straight time. It wasn't always easy for UNI, which played ragged football throughout the game.

Still, the Panthers found a way to put points - and lots of them - on the board in the first half on the way to a 31-0 lead.

It didn't take long for the UNI defense to make a difference.
