New Academic Programs, 2013 Budget on Agenda As Board of Regents Meets at UNI

The regents are meeting on the University of Northern Iowa campus Thursday and Friday.


Among other things, the Iowa Board of Regents will discuss state and internal audits and make decisions on the fiscal year 2013 budgets of UNI, Iowa State University and the University of Iowa. They will also consider compensation for institutional head and executive directors.

The creation of new academic programs at the is on the agenda for the Board of Regents August meeting in Cedar Falls. The University of Iowa is scheduled to pitch a project where they would request state funding for a new Genetics Institute on campus.

The meeting is being held today and tomorrow on the UNI campus. The regents will meet in the Maucker Union Old Central Ballroom, rooms A and B. The meeting can also be listened to online via a live stream from the Board's website.

Most of Thursday's sessions are closed to the public. The Board met in an open session from about 1:30 to 1:45 p.m. for the sale of bonds, and the Education and Student Affairs Committee will meet from 3 to 5 p.m.

At that meeting, Provost Gloria Gibson will present proposals for new academic programs at UNI. The proposed programs are Bachelor of Arts Program in Interactive Digital Studies, Bachelor of Arts Program in Graphic Design and Master of Arts Program in Teaching English in Secondary Schools.

On Friday, the Board will meet in open session from 9 a.m. to about 1:45 p.m.
