Iowa City School Put Under Soft Lockdown due to Suspicious Person

A suspicious person report from staff at Longfellow Elementary today prompted a call into police and the school was put on soft lockdown.

Here is a message that went to Longfellow parents:

This is Chris Pisarik from .  Over the noon hour today, there was a suspicious-looking adult who paused in the alley way next to our playground.  Longfellow staff approached him and attempted communication.  It was evident that this individual did not speak English.

After the discussion, he walked off of school grounds and Iowa City Police were contacted.  During this process, the cautious decision was made to keep children in the building and go into what we call a "soft-lock down."
