Iowa City School Board Tonight Set to Discuss Twain Elementary Office Renovation, Overall Facilities Plan

There will also likely be some discussion on the latest redistricting proposals.

It's officially Spring school board season, and that means trying to get as much work and parent input done as the school year rapidly approaches its close.

Officially on the agenda, the board will discuss the district's comprehensive facilities plan that contains all of the building improvements the district intends to spend money on during the course of the year. One item of interest that may change this plan, is whether or not to delay at Mark Twain Elementary School, which, along with the City High Fine Arts Wing renovation project, came in at a higher bid than expected.

To do the Twain project, the school board will have to choose to delay other projects on the facilities plan. This might not sit too well with parents on the east side of Iowa City, who have argued that the district hasn't been spending enough on their side of the city.

Speaking of unrest on the east side, redistricting will also likely come up during the community comment section of the meeting. Last Friday east side parents asking the school district to build a new elementary school to ease overcrowding rather than doing , that is still under discussion.

The meeting is tonight at 6 p.m. Here is the agenda.
