Iowa City School Board Candidates Answer Questions

Teacher's union Q and A offers insight into the views of 10 candidates

The Iowa City Educations Association, which represents all of the teachers in the Iowa City School District, has a Q and A on its website with the 10 candidates running for school board.

Questions include views on public versus private education, collective bargaining and the connection between teacher pay and student performance, among others.

The candidates include Jeff Alden, Jeff McGinnes, Jim Tate, Julie VanDyke, Karla Cook, Marla Swesey, Patti Fields, Phil Hemingway, Bob Porter and Sally Hoelsher.

School board elections are on Sept. 13. Click here for information about registering to vote and requesting an absentee ballot. 

On the ballot will be four at-large seats with four-year terms and one two-year term fill a vacancy left by Mike Cooper, who resigned.
