University of Iowa Alum who Worked for Ron Paul Campaign Vying to Replace Randi Shannon as Candidate

Previous candidate Randi Shannon dropped out of the race to take part in an alternative government. Ryan Flood says he wants to run for Iowa Senate district 34 against Liz Mathis, a Democrat.

A former Marion resident says he wants to step in for the Republicans after the former GOP candidate dropped her bid for the Iowa Senate to join an alternative government. 

Former Marion resident Ryan Flood told Linn County Republicans that he will be campaigning for Iowa Senate 34, according to The Gazette. If he follows through, he will face Liz Mathis, a Democrat.

Flood, a University of Iowa graduate, will be trying to fill the vacancy that was created when Iowa City native . Flood could be nominated later this summer by his fellow Republicans.

No one else has tossed in their name as a candidate, although that could change at the nominating convention, according to Linn County GOP Co-Chairwoman Cindy Golding.

Flood worked as the director of operations for the organization "Liberty for All" in Texas after leaving the Ron Paul presidential campaign.
