Iowa City Park Shelters Can Now Be Reserved Online

Making plans for this summer? You can now reserve Iowa City park shelters ONLINE!

Media Release

The return of snow and cold weather this week has many people thinking ahead to warmer temperatures and making plans for what they'll do when spring and summer finally arrive. The City of Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department reminds residents that with the introduction of the new registration system, ActiveNet, reservations for park shelters can now be made and paid for online.

April through October are busy months for City parks and facilities, so if you're interested in reserving one of the City's park shelters for a graduation party, wedding, picnic, reunion, or other family or community event, now would be a good time to finalize those plans. Fees range from $8 to $52, depending on the size of the shelter.

To reserve a shelter:
• Visit www.icgov.org/pr and click on the ActiveNet logo to set up your account. If you already have an account, simply log in.
• In the list of options provided, look for "Other Services" and select "Make Reservations."
• Next, select "Reserve a Park Shelter" and enter your information. Shelters are reserved for five-hour time slots. Fees will double for reservations over five hours.
• Follow instructions for payment, as your registration will not be complete until payment is made. MasterCard, Visa, Discover, & America Express cards are accepted.
• A copy of your reservation and receipt will be e-mailed to you, or you may print a copy directly from the registration page.

If you're unsure of which shelter you want to reserve, information on the cost, size, location, amenities, and availability of each shelter, as well as a map, are provided on ActiveNet in the "View Facilities" section. There are plenty of shelters to choose from: 26 of the City's 41 parks provide at least one picnic shelter. City-wide, 45 shelters are available, including 14 at City Park.
