Iowa City Human Rights Commission Vacancy

The Iowa City Human Rights Commission has one vacancy to fill an unexpired term plus a full three year term. 

General Duties of the Commission include: educating the public on illegal discrimination and civil rights; providing the enforcement necessary to further the goals of the Human Rights Ordinance; cooperating with other agencies or organizations, both public and private, whose purposes are not inconsistent with those of the Human Rights Ordinance; Coordinating programs designed to eliminate racial, religious, cultural and other intergroup tensions.

Appointments are determined by the City Council. 

Regularly scheduled meetings take place on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6 pm. Applicants must reside in Iowa City and be 18 years of age unless specific qualifications are stated. State law requires most boards and commissions be balanced according to gender. The current demographics are: Male 3 Female 5.
