Iowa City Council Primary Election Unofficial Results: Hayek, Payne, Patel and Mitchell Move On
Here are your election results from this primary election. If the numbers stand up, the winning group will proceed to the Nov. 8 election to battle for the final two spots.
Your unofficial Iowa City City Council election primary results are in, and four candidates have been selected to move on to the Nov. 8 election, where they will compete for two At-Large Spots on the city council.
The winners of the primary, if the numbers hold up, are current , Raj Patel, and . The four were picked by voters from a pool of seven At-Large candidates.
Hayek, Patel and Payne cruised to victory with comfortable margins, with Hayek's 1,662 votes by far the highest of any of the seven candidates. In contrast, Jarrett Mitchell finished with 364 votes, just 17 more votes than Mark McCallum, his nearest competitor.

The total turnout was 2,598 voters out of 50,820 registered voters. Here is a detailed breakdown from where in Iowa City the votes came from.
The results are scheduled to be officially certified by a canvass of votes at 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 13.
