Election 2016 Watch: Tea Party Star and GOP Senator Cruz Set for Key Iowa Event - Ronald Reagan Dinner

Sen. Ted Cruz, a Republican from Texas, has been announced as a headliner for the Ronald Reagan Commemorative Dinner on Oct. 25 at the Iowa State Fairground in Des Moines.

The breath of air between election 2012 and 2016 in Iowa appears to expiring as politicos start to trickle in to size up Iowans. 

Sen. Ted Cruz, a Republican from Texas, has been announced as a headliner for the Ronald Reagan Commemorative Dinner on Oct. 25 at the Iowa State Fairground in Des Moines. He will be at the Family Leader Summit in Iowa later this month, also. 

"Senator Cruz has quickly become nationally recognizable as someone who came to Washington to truly shake things up," Iowa Republican Party Chairman A.J. Spiker said in a news release. "Cruz has been a tremendous leader in holding the Obama administration accountable for the out of control debt and spending problems we face today. We are both honored and ecstatic to be having him keynote our fall Reagan Dinner." 

According to the news release, the annual dinner is one of the biggest events of the year for the Iowa GOP, and serves as a draw for national stars within the Republican Party.

Cruz, who's popular among the Tea Party, has made a name for himself as a limited government, constitutionalist who at times goes opposes other Republican Party leaders

Cruz is starting to make the rounds in Iowa, which some take a sign he's considering a presidential run in 2016. He is also scheduled to appear at the Family Leader Summit in Ames this month, and attended a GOP fundraiser in Des Moines in July.
