UPDATE: Victims' Names Released in Student-Housing Shooting Near Kirkwood Campus

The Cedar Rapids Police Department have released the names of the victims of Friday's shooting in an apartment complex near Kirkwood Community College.

UPDATE: The Cedar Rapids Police Department has released the names of the three victims of Friday’s near Kirkwood Community College.

The victims of the shooting are Shannon Gaskins, 21, Alexander White, 22, both from Cedar Rapids, in addition to Raymond Sellers, 24, of Chicago.

According to a release from Cedar Rapids police, they responded to the scene of the shooting at 311 Kirkwood Court SW to find Gaskins and White with gunshot wounds to the torso. They were sent to Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids.

The third victim, Sellers, was dropped off to the Mercy Hospital emergency room just after police arrived on the scene of the shooting.

The conditions of the victims remain unknown and case remains under investigation, according to police.

Original Story: Three people are in critical condition after , which houses students near Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids.

Cedar Rapids Police Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said no suspects have been apprehended. She would not say whether police are looking for a single shooter or more.

Police taped off a section of the parking lot near building 311 and were conducting interviews, according to KCRG. 

Police have yet to release names of the victims, but said that at about 12:39 p.m., police received a call from 311 Kirkwood Court SW No. 1, stating a 21-year-old female and a 22-year-old male had been shot. Ten minutes later, Mercy Hospital notified police that a 24-year-old male year old male showed up at the hospital with at least one gunshot wound. Police would not confirm whether the situations are connected.

The apartment complex markets itself to students, but it was unclear whether the vicitims attend the college. The complex is directly across the street from Kirkwood College Recreation Center and draws from Cedar Rapids, Marion and the surrounding area.

Several areas, including Kirkwood and Prairie High School, went into lockdown mode, but those restrictions have since been lifted.

Mike Foley, 18, who lives in an apartment building nearby, told the Cedar Rapids Gazette that he saw several police cars arrive to the area and walked down to see the scene. He said he saw two people brought out on stretchers and put into an ambulance.

“The one looked pretty bad, but I really couldn’t tell,” Foley told the newspaper. “It’s pretty messed up. It’s pretty scary.”
