University of Iowa Student Finds His Romney Sign Vandalized with Racial Slur Near Iowa City Residence

A University of Iowa student with a Mitt Romney sign reported finding it vandalized this morning.

A University of Iowa student who supports Mitt Romney was disappointed to find this morning that his Romney/Ryan yard sign had been vandalized.

The Daily Iowan reported that the sign, located on the corner of Market and Lucas streets, was seen Friday morning with the words “I [heart symbol] N*****s”, “Obama”, “99% F**k”, “1% F**k” and “Rich forever” scribbled on the sign. The large R for Romney was also removed.

The paper reported that the student, Michael Richardson, 19, found the sign on his way to school this morning (article includes photo of sign.)

“I was really surprised, we just found it this morning when we went to class,” he said.

Vandalism incidents against both candidates are apparently not uncommon, as a quick search reveals vandalism of a yard sign in North Carolina; a road sign inRomney, Texas; a poorly spelled slur on Obama's Des Moines headquarters; an Obama yard sign in Texas; and many, many more, with many of the instances coming within the last week.

Please Dems, do not be like the hateful party. Be better then them. This is no way to treat fellow Americans. Just go vote and take a few of Dems with you!

My Romney sign was ripped off my lawn with somebody yelling F**CK Romney and then it was completely mutilated.. The left has become totally unhinged because they know their sugardaddy is on his way out of the wh.
Jeff Klinzman October 14, 2012 at 02:19 AM
Harumph. Vandalism by either side is wrong. But, before any of you people call Obama "sugardaddy" or claim the "left is unhinged," remember it's YOU folks who cooked up the birther blather, have firebombed mosques and attempted to prevent mosques from being constructed. Sorry, but I see the organized hate, which has taken over a major political party, to be squarely on the right, in the GOP.

Your Fellow Republican October 14, 2012 at 03:19 AM
Fellow Republicans: Too many obvious racists have attended our events. We must continue to deface some of our own signs so that it will be apparent that Democrats have racists on their side too. The media will pick up on these if they are well placed. Remember, we need fair and balanced.

Please!! Like this even comes close to firing a gun into an occupied building with Obama volunteers. This is petty and disgusting!
Stephen L. Glahn October 14, 2012 at 04:34 AM
N******s Obama? Can't you be more subtle? Is this an example of jounalistic equivalency?

Really just sounds like kids on this one...there's no real message one way or the other...I know when I was in middle school I knew kids that thought it was funny to do stupid stuff with the almost 100 yard signs on the way to school, and none of them really paid attention to politics at all...though kids these days are probably way more exposed...if someone was going to deface something with political hate, they'd have a clear message...we have I love n****** Obama...f***ing of a bunch of stuff, and Rich forever....WTH does all that mean? Would a Dem fanatic say I love n*****s, as an Obama supporter? I don't understand the immediate pitchfork and conspiracy thrown up by GOPrs on this thread...do people even think anymore?

remember 2008, when a lady reported being assaulted and the letters scribe on is face or something by some blacks thugs and turn to be a self inflicted. I do not believe this story.
Robert Schultheis October 14, 2012 at 02:10 PM
Defaced signs? Mercy me, how terrible! Republican elected officials are trying to keep black Americans and Hispanics fom voting wiith last minute bogus legislation supposedly aimed at "voter fraud"; the only problem is, there isn't any voter fraud, except for the con job Romney and Ryan are trying to pull on the electorate.

A picture has been circulating on Facebook: a Caucasian at a Romney rally in Lancaster, Ohio, wearing a t-shirt with the message: "Romney/Ryan: Put the White back in the White House." Pretty unambiguously racist...

If you vote for Romney, you are helping the very rich people buy your choices and your vote. The big money will have to get them something and Romney will have to pay back the rich guys who gave it to him. Forget the attack ads, just listen to your heart and follow your good common sense. Don't give America to the rich who will only help themselves.
allen October 15, 2012 at 01:02 AM
I don't think so. An Obama supporter using the "N" bomb? Hardly!!! This is a failed and ham-handed republican publicity ploy to counter and distract from all the overt right wing hostility out there.
Jason Rahall October 15, 2012 at 08:29 AM
Please don't assume the Dems had anything to do with this vandalism.
Jason Rahall October 15, 2012 at 08:30 AM
Yup, right out of his book of dirty campaign tricks.
mr. big October 15, 2012 at 01:28 PM
My thoughts as well. The likely perp was one Mr. Michael Richardson himself.
