String of Taxi Cab Driver Robberies Continues With 4th Gun Point Stick Up

This is the fourth in a string of armed robberies in less than a week. They've all been in roughly the same area on the west side of Iowa City, and they have all been at gun point.

Another taxi cab driver has been robbed at gun point.

The robbery occurred this morning, Aug. 8, at about 4:45 a.m. in the area of 1034 Jensen Street, according to Iowa City Police. A Marco's Taxi Cab driver reported that he had been robbed at gun point by a black male, police say. 

This is the fourth in a string of robberies in a week. They've all been in roughly the same area on the west side of Iowa City, and they have all been at gun point.

  • Police received a report at 4:53 a.m. that two hours earlier, at approximately 2:30 a.m., two black males wearing dark hooded sweatshirts approached a man in the area of 2400 Bittersweet Court and struck him in the face, taking the money from his pocket. 
  • On Sunday, August 4, 2013 at approximately 10:05 p.m., Iowa City Police received a report of an armed robbery of a Yellow Cab driver in the area of Samoa Drive in Iowa City. The victim told police he was approached by a black male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt in his mid-20's, who displayed a handgun and demanded money
  • At 11:01 p.m. a driver with Five Stars Taxi company reported that he had been robbed by two black males in the parking lot of 2437 Petsel Place.
Here's more on this morning's robbery from Iowa City Police:

The victim described the man as thin, approximately six foot tall wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt. The male took a quantity of cash and fled the area on foot. Officers responded to the scene of the robbery and attempted to locate the suspect. Investigation into this matter is ongoing.

Iowa City Area Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $1000 cash reward for information leading to the arrest of this suspect. Anyone with information about this crime is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 358-TIPS (8477). All calls are held in strict confidence and anonymity is guaranteed. Individuals providing information do not have to reveal their identity to collect a reward.
