State Patrol Releases Name of Woman Killed in Sunday's Interstate 80 Crash

Officials say a nasty collision between a car and a semi resulted in the death of a Mason City woman.


The Iowa State Patrol have released the name of the woman who was killed when she lost control of her vehicle and slid into the path of a semi.

Officials say Hyoung Lae Chung, 49, of Mason City was killed in the accident that happened at 6:28 p.m. near the Interstate 80 and Interstate 380 interchange.

According to the crash report, Chung was getting off Interstate 380 onto the Interstate 80 when she lost control of her vehicle and drove into oncoming east bound traffic. There she was struck by semi driven by Jaib Singh Raih of Madera, Cal, sending Chung's vehicle into the south ditch and as the semi stopped when hitting a concrete median.

Chung was transported by ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, according to the report.

The crash tied up traffic for several hours as the highway was reduced to one lane while the wreckage was cleared.
