Sexual Assault Reported on University of Iowa Campus

There was a report of the sexual assault near the Biological Sciences Library at about 9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 7.

UI Police Receive Crime Report

The University of Iowa Police received a report of a sexual assault that occurred near the Biological Sciences Library at about 9 p.m. on Thursday, September 7th, 2012.

The victim reported she was walking alone along the the south side of Jefferson street when she was pulled from behind into the alley and sexually assaulted. The victim sustained minor injuries.

The suspect is described as a white male, mid 20's, 6'2" tall, 220 lbs., medium build with short hair. He had a scar over the left eye close to his temple and no facial hair. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and sweatshorts.

Anyone with information about this incident should call the UI Police at 319-355-5022 or Iowa City Crimestoppers at 319-358-TIPS. Callers to Crimestoppers with information leading to a conviction may be eligible for a reward.

UI Police recommend people walk in groups as much as possible and report crimes immediately by calling 911. They also encourage the use of NITE Ride, Cambus, or other reliable transportation services. The UI Police offers Rape Aggression Defense training which is self-defense training for women. This information is being released in accordance with the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. The Clery Act requires all colleges and universities that participate in federal financial aid programs to keep and disclose information about crime on and near their respective campuses, including timely warnings of crimes that may represent a threat to the safety of students or employees.
