Saturday Morning Fire Leads to Evacuation at Lakeside Drive Residence

No one was injured as the Iowa City Fire Department responded to yet another fire this week.

There were no injuries in an early morning fire that led to the evacuation of a home in the early morning hours on Lakeside Drive.

According to a Iowa City Fire Department media release, at approximately 1:38 a.m., the fire department was called for a building fire at 2332 Lakeside Drive. The fire department responded with three engines, one ladder truck, and one Battalion Chief.  First-in crews reported smoke coming from the front door and all of the residents were already out of the home.

The firefighters then entered the house and brought the fire under control 20 minutes after arrival, according to the release. All of the occupants were out of the house when the fire department arrived.

The fire was extinguished approximately 45 minutes after fire department arrival. Johnson County Ambulance responded for standby, Iowa City Police provided traffic control. MidAmerica Energy responded to shut off utilities.

There were no injuries, civilian or firefighter. Fire crews were on the scene for two hours. Red Cross was called to the scene to assist six occupants.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated by the fire department, according to the release, with no damage estimate available at this time.
