"I don't know the condition," said Brian Rohr, a captain with the Iowa City fire department who was acting battalion chief on Thursday.

It appeared the responders were using the Jaws of Life, or a tool like it, to cut open the vehicle. The entire driver side of the vehicle had been removed.

It appeared the car struck a tree and stopped in the grass across from Tate High School.
