Police: Men Arrested with Drugs, Semi-Automatic Rifle in Iowa City Motel

Two men were arrested in an Iowa City motel room Wednesday night and charged with drug possession.

According to criminal complaints, at 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening, Iowa City Police Officers conducted a drug investigation at , 2216 N. Dodge St. in Iowa City.

Upon their arrival, police encountered Lee Marvin Weekly, 20, of Clarenda exiting the room with a marijuana blunt behind his ear. Weekly was arrested by officers, who obtained a warrant to search the room, according to the complaint. Police during their search found a semi-automatic AR-15 rifle, drug packaging, drug scales, $2,500 cash in a backpack.

Weekly allegedly told officers that he owned all of the items in the room and was going to use the money to buy a half pound of marijuana. He also allegedly admitted to selling large quantities of marijuana.

While searching the room, police encountered Colin Peter Thompson, 20, of Iowa City. Thompson said he was renting the motel room for his friend and that he knew Weekly was selling marijuana out of the room, according to the complaint. He also allegedly admitted to buying the rifle for Weekly, who let him smoke for free in exchange for paying for the room, according to the complaint.

Thompson told police that he did not own any of the money or drugs found at the scene.

Both men were charged with felony marijuana possession with intent to distribute, a class D felony.
