Police: Man Stole Over $11,000 Worth of Sunglasses from Sunglass Hut Kiosk in Mall

The man is facing felony burglary and theft charges for the crime, which reportedly happened on May 2.


A Coralville man has been charged with felony theft and burglary for allegedly breaking into a display case and stealing more than $11,000 worth of sunglasses from the Sunglass Hut kiosk in the Coral Ridge Mall.

According to Coralville Police reports, David Alexander Rose, 35, of Coralville, broke into the display case at the kiosk on May 2, stealing over 60 pairs of sunglasses. Upon authorities investigating the scene, they found Rose's finger prints on the case and served a search warrant on his residence, where they found and recovered one pair of the stolen glasses, according to the complaint.

Comparing the 60 sunglasses against the $11,000 amount would place the average value of the sunglasses stolen at around $180 a pair.

The police report states that other evidence found at the scene suggest that Rose was the individual who perpretrated the crime.

Rose was booked into the Johnson County Jail in Iowa City Wednesday afternoon at 1:19 p.m., according to the complaint. He has been charged with first-degree theft (based on the amount stolen), a Class C Felony and third-degree bugrlary, a Class D Felony. His bail has been set at $15,000 cash or surety.
