Police: Man Fondles Boy's 'Privates,' Boy's Grandmother Responds with Punches

The Iowa City man was charged with two misdemeanors and a felony for two different instances of alleged sexual abuse.

An Iowa City man was greeted harshly first by a grandmother and then by police after he allegedly sexually abused a boy on two different occassions.

According to an Iowa City Police complaint on May 15 in an apartment at 2401 Highway 6 E, Devin Jared Menard, 22, no address known, laid down next to a boy listed by the complaint as being under the age of twelve as he was going to sleep. The boy told police that Menard "kept touching me right here" while gesturing toward his genitalia area. The boy allegedly told police that Menard touched "his privates" over his clothing, and that he "I know that he was touching me in the wrong spot." The boy said that he told Menard to stop during the encounter.

A second encounter happened with a boy listed as being under the age of thirteen six days later at the same apartment. The boy told police that Menard kept attempting to reach under his shorts in an attempt to touch his "privates." The boy allegedly pulled Menard's hand away and told him to stop but Menard continued his attempts, according to the complaint.
