Police: 61-Year-Old Pulls Gun and Steals Money from Boy Looking for Lawns to Mow

Kevin John Shannon faces multiple charges including first-degree robbery, going armed with intent and impersonating an officer. Iowa City Police said the incident took place on Sunday afternoon on Bradford Drive.


Iowa City Police arrested an Iowa City man and charged him with multiple crimes, some of them severe, after it was reported that he had threatened a juvenile while displaying a handgun.

According to an Iowa City police media release, at 3:22 p.m. Sunday officers responded to the 2600 block of Bradford Drive after receiving a report of a male juvenile being threatened by a man with a gun. The juvenile did not receive any injuries during the incident.

12YO MALE WAS WALKING IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD TRYING TO MOW LAWNS, AND A MALE THAT LIVES ON THE BLOCK THREATHENED HIM WITH A GUN.

Following investigation, Kevin John Shannon, age 61, of 1264 Dover Street in Iowa City was arrested and charged with first-degree robbery, a Class B felony; going armed with intent, a Class D Felony; impersonation a public official, an aggravated misdemeanor; first-degree harassment, an aggravated misdemeanor; and operating while intoxicated, a serious misdemeanor.
