Police: Iowa City Man 'Looking for Brett' Faces Felony After Found in Apartment with Door Kicked In

The man was charged with felony burglary for allegedly breaking into the apartment.


An Iowa City man is facing a felony burglary charge after he allegedly broke into an apartment Thursday morning.

According to an Iowa City Police criminal complaint, tenants of an apartment building at 515 E. Burlington Street reported that they came home at 12:50 a.m. and found their door kicked in.

Inside, they allegedly found Quartez Lashawn Alexander, 21, walking into the living room from the bedroom area. When a female tenant asked Alexander what he was doing in the apartment, Alexander allegedly said he was looking for "Brett," according to the criminal complaint.

Once officers arrived, Alexander denied ever entering the residence. Police said officers and wallets appeared to have rifled through but nothing was taken. Alexander also was searched by police and allegedly had a one-hitter used for smoking marijuana and a gram and a half of marijuana inside a bottle on his person.

Alexander faces charges of second-degree burglary, a class C felony; a third or subsequent marijuana possession charge, an aggravated misdemeanor; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.
