Man Arrested After Breaking into City High to 'See if There Was a Security System'

The man was found by Iowa City police after an alarm alerted them to his presence. The man lists himself as a former City High student.

An Iowa City man is facing a felony burglary charge after he allegedly broke into City High School Tuesday morning.

According to Iowa City Police complaints, police responded to City High School for a burglary alarm at 12:47 a.m Tuesday. Officers found a door ajar on the east side of the new building.

The officers entered there and found a man, later identified as Forrest Kristian Weger, 29, in the school's boiler room reportedly holding a video recorder taken from one of the rooms. Weger told officers that he had entered the building to "see if there was a security system" activated, according to the complaint.

On his Facebook page, Weger indicates that he attended City High and was in the class of 2002. He is not listed as a City High graduate in The Gazette's records.

Iowa City police Sgt. Vicki Lalla said officers searched the entire school after arresting Weger to make sure no one was in the building, nothing else was taken and nothing was left behind.
