Police: Driver Charged with Intoxication for Operating Vehicle While on Heroin

The motorist appeared to be slumped over the wheel in the Hy-Vee parking lot.

An Iowa City man was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated after it was determined that he was driving his vehicle while high on heroin.

According to Iowa City police criminal complaints, officers responded to the First Avenue Hy-Vee after they received two calls of a reckless driver operating a maroon station wagon. One caller reported the vehicle going up on the curb, the other that a driver had entered the Hy-Vee parking lot and appeared to be sleeping at the wheel.

Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer reported finding Nicholas Kyne Pressley, 29, of Iowa City slumped over the wheel. When he was awoken by the officer he was found to have slurred words and asked the officer to repeat questions several times. Pressley allegedly failed his sobriety test but blew a zero on a blood-alcohol content and refused a urine test.

A search of Pressley's vehicle allegedly revealed a wooden box of syringes and a substance with a heroin like substance in it, as well as two spoons that appeared to be used for the ingestion of drugs, one with a rock-like substance on it.

Pressley was charged with possession of a controlled substance and operating a vehicle while intoxicated, both serious misdemeanors.
