Coralville Woman Admitted to Taking Nyquil During Police Traffic Stop, Led Officers on 100+ Mph Chase

A Coralville woman is facing criminal charges after she led multiple law enforcement agencies on a high speed chase after a traffic stop where she allegedly admitted to taking Nyquil and prescription drugs and then refused to cooperate with police.

According to police complaints, Nancy Ruth Kuntz, 43, of Coralville was stopped for a traffic violation at 3:30 a.m. on Sunday morning on Highway 218 at the 92 milemarker. Upon an officer speaking with Kuntz, she allegedly admitted to having previously taken Nyquil and a prescription medicine.

At this point Kuntz then allegedly stopped cooperating with the officer, rolled her window up. Deputies attempted to extricate her from the vehicle by breaking the window but she then put the car into drive making this impossible, according to the complaint.

Kuntz then led authorities from several jurisdictions on a high speed chase for thirty miles, with speeds exceed 100 miles per hour. One of the officers wrote that "on more than one occasion she [Kuntz] attempted to run my vehicle off the roadway, requiring evasive action." The pursuit ended near the intersection of Highway 92 and Highway 1 in Washington County.

A check by an officer after the stop determined that Kuntz was under the influence of "CNS depressants or alcohol" at the time of incident.

Kuntz was charged with felony eluding, felony assault on a police officer, felony interference with official acts (all Class D felonies), and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, a serious misdemeanor. She is being held in the Johnson County Jail on $23,500 bail.
