Police: Pizza Shop Armed Robbery Suspect Writes Confession, Apologizes to Clerks

Marvis Jackson, of Iowa City, was implicated in an armed robbery on New Year's Eve morning at Gumby's Pizza and was then connected to two other robberies in November.

Iowa City Police have released more information about the two men that were arrested Monday for an armed robbery at Gumby's Pizza after they were searched out with the help of a K9 unit.

One of the men, Marvis Jackson, 27, of Iowa City, was implicated in two other armed robberies, one on  and another on . 

According to Iowa City Police criminal complaints, Jackson wrote a confession describing the events of the Nov. 13 and Nov. 22 robberies. In the Nov. 13 robbery, he allegedly pointed his gun at the clerk and asked for money and a carton of Newport 100 Cigarettes. On Nov. 22 at the Suburban BP, Jackson allegedly stopped a female clerk from closing a security window and hopped the counter, pointing a gun at the cashier and saying "give me the money" several times, although in this case he reportedly left with no money, according to the complaint.

Jackson, who is now facing first-degree robbery charges, told police that he used the same handgun for all three robberies, and he reportedly apologized to the clerks for committing the robberies in his confession, according to police complaints.

Jackson's testimony also tied Wesley Allen Turner, 24, as an accomplice to the Gumby's robbery. Turner also confessed to entering the Gumby's with the intent to rob the restaurant, according to the complaint.

No one was injured in the robberies. 

Jackson is in the Johnson County Jail with a more than $300,000 bond, according to online jail records. Turner is also in jail on a $100,000 cash only bond.
