Police Arrest Iowa City Couple in Large Marijuana Bust

The two Iowa City residents were arrested on July 18 and charged with possession of 44 marijuana plants and 1,500 grams of marijuana.

Iowa City police executed a drug bust on an Iowa City home last Monday, July 18, netting a large amount of marijuana, both in processed and plant form from a local couple. 

According to criminal complaints, police executed a search warrant at 721 Kimball Road at 8:30 p.m. on July 18 and found 1,500 grams of marijuana, 44 marijuana plants in various stages of growth, packaging material and drug paraphernalia in the residence, with three different rooms in the residence allegedly dedicated to growing marijuana. The Iowa City Press-Citizen reported that this residence was owned by a couple, Emily and Zach Goldsmith.

Police have charged Emily Goldsmith, 31, and Zach Goldsmith, 35, with felony marijuana possession with intent to deliver, a drug tax-stamp violation, possession of drug paraphernalia, and allowing the possession of drugs within their residence.

Iowa City Police Sergeant Denise Brotherton said on Tuesday that the street price for a gram of marijuana as of a few months ago was approximately $20.
