Man Accused of Masturbating in Gym, Bringing Marijuana to Library: Iowa City Police Blotter, Jan. 19

The following information was provided by the Iowa City Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

From Criminal Complaints

An Iowa City man was accused of indecent exposure and second-offense marijuana possession for two separate incidents over the last two weeks.

Police say on Jan. 9 at 8:48 p.m. Donald Michael Fennelly, 58, of 3042 Muscatine Avenue, Iowa City, allegedly disturbed a female patron at the Scanlon Gym at 2701 Bradford Drive when she saw him "playing with himself" in the work out area.

After the police reviewed the security camera tape, they say they saw Fennelly lying on the mat in front of the treadmills near a woman (the same one who reported Fennelly) walking on them. Fennelly allegedly laid there on the mat with his penis exposed and rubbed it briefly, and then he began "masturbating vigorously." Within a few seconds, the woman on the treadmill noticed what was happening and was shown on video leaving the room.

On Jan. 18 at 1:21 p.m., Fennelly allegedly tried to enter the Iowa City Public Library but was barred due to a trespass warning for previous incidents. When police arrived they reportedly found a bag of marijuana in Fennelly's sock, according to the criminal complaint. Fennelly had a previous drug conviction on Nov. 21, 1990.

A Clinton woman was accused of assault causing serious injury after getting into a dispute with another woman at the Blue Moose Tap House.

Jordan Taylar Miller, 19, of Clinton is accused of punching another woman and spitting in her face during an argument.

Police say they arrived at the Blue Moose Tap at 9:50 p.m. for the report of a fight between two females. The woman who had been punched gave a description of Miller, who was no longer on the scene. Independent witnesses confirmed Miller as the aggressor according to the criminal complaint.

When they found her later, Miller allegedly admitted to being in a fight downtown after drinking. She reportedly told police that she "just lost it" and that the fight had been due to some "drama" that had been "brewing" due to a dispute over a previous boyfriend.

The woman who was punched suffered pain, swelling and a possible broken nose, according to the complaint.
