Johnson County Sheriff: Man Sliced Girlfriend with a Four-Inch Pocket Knife Following Argument

The Iowa City man is facing charges, including two felonies, for allegedly attacking his girlfriend with a short knife on Sunday following an argument.


An Iowa City man is facing two felony charges after he allegedly slashed the arm of his girlfriend after the two had been involved in a dispute.

According to Johnson County Sheriff's Office criminal complaints, deputies responded to a residence at 4494 Taft Ave. for the report of a domestic dispute at 11:02 p.m. Sunday night.

The woman told police at the scene that she had been in an argument with Dakota Jack Washington, 21, at the residence, according to the complaint. She told officers that she had threatened to throw an item at Washington an he responded that he should just "slice or stab" her. Washington then allegedly slashed the woman on her left bicep with a four-inch pocket knife, causing the woman a flash of pain and the gushing of blood down her arm.

The woman told deputies that Washington then chased her from the residence and she feared for her life. She then ran to a neighbors and called 911.

The victim's laceration was "approximately four inches long and a quarter of an inch deep" and required 11 stitches to bind the wound, according to the complaint.

Washington was booked into the Johnson County Jail at 12:50 a.m. this morning according to online jail records. He has been charged with willful causing of a bodily injury, a Class D felony; going armed with intent, a Class D felony; and domestic abuse assault without intent causing injury, a serious misdemeanor. His bail has been set at $25,000.
