Iowa State Patrol: Man Killed on Side of the Interstate 80 by Runaway Semi

Investigators are still looking into the accident that claimed the life of a Chicago man early this morning.


A Chicago man was killed early this morning after a semi collided with a parked vehicle near the Tiffin exit on Interstate 80.

According to an Iowa State Patrol crash report, at 3:27 a.m. this morning, Rolando Calderon-Yescas, 34, of North Chicago was outside his vehicle that was parked on the outside shoulder of Interstate 80 west bound.

At this point investigators determined an unknown semi heading west collided both with Calderon-Yescas and with his vehicle. The semi did not stop after the collision and continued heading westbound, according to the report.

Calderon-Yescas was declared dead at the scene, and was transported by the Johnson County Medical Examiner to University Hospitals and Clinics, according to the report.

Investigation into the accident continues.
