Iowa City Teen Tased During Scuffle With Police

An Iowa City teenager is facing three charges, including one for assaulting a police officer, connected to an incident on Tuesday.

An Iowa City man was Tased by police after allegedly bloodying a police officer's nose with an elbow and attempting to flee during an incident on Tuesday night, according to Iowa City police complaints.

Fermin Lagos, 18, of 2401 Highway 6 E No. 3601, faces three charges including assault on a peace officer, interference with official acts and public intoxication. The first two charges are aggravated misdemeanors while the alcohol violations is a serious misdemeanor because it was his second offense. 

Police say they responded to a fight in progress at 10:09 p.m. Tuesday at Lagos' residence when they encountered Lagos. While Lagos was being placed under arrest he attempted to run and then elbowed a uniformed officer, who suffered a bloody nose, according to police.

Lagos had to be taken to the ground and Tased, according to police. Police say Lagos smelled strongly of alcohol, had bloodshot watery eyes, was swaying and also had an open beer.
