Iowa City Police: Teenagers Arrested for Involvement in Armed Robbery

The Iowa City Police say they arrested four individuals, some of them juveniles, who were then implicated in an armed robbery on South Dodge Street Sunday night.


The Iowa City Police that officers were able to quickly arrest four teens allegedly involved in an armed robbery at a residence on South Dodge Street Sunday night.

According to a police media release, at 10:41 p.m. last night, police responded to 409 South Dodge St. for a report of an armed robbery. Officers through their investigation that three black males had entered the residence, one of them with a handgun, who had pointed it at two separate victims and demanded they place laptop computers into a backpack. All three suspects then fled the area.

Detectives from ICPD's Street Crimes Unit along with several patrol officers continued to investigate and later arrested the suspects in a vehicle along with a female who was also allegedly involved in the incident, according to the release. One of the suspects jumped out of the vehicle and ran, but was quickly caught.

Police were able to find the stolen computers but were unable to find the reported handgun. 

All three of the males were juveniles and not named by the police. The alleged perpetrator with the gun was 17-years-old and was charged with two counts of first-degree robbery (Class B Felony), intimidation with a dangerous weapon (Class C Felony), assault while participating in a felony (Class D Felony), and going armed with intent (Class D Felony).

Juvenile number two was also 17-years-old, and was charged with second degree theft (Class D Felony) and accessory to a felony (an aggravated misdemeanor).

The third male, Ki'el Donte Washington, 19, was arrested on an unrelated arrest warrant and charged with interference with official acts (simple misdemeanor).

The woman who was arrested was Shakila Ann Holder, 18, and she was charged with second-degree theft (Class D Felony) and accessory to a felony (aggravated misdemeanor).

All suspects involved are believed to have been captured and no one was injured in this incident, according to the release. More charges are possible as police investigate the matter futher.

Police are still looking for more information on the incident, including the location of the gun. Tipsters with info are encouraged to contact the Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers at 358-TIPS (8477). The identity of individuals who call does not need to be revealed for a reward to be received.
