Iowa City Police Searching for Suspect in Another Armed Robbery of Cab Driver

The armed robbery took place just a short walk away from the armed robbery of a taxi cab driver that happened Friday evening on Petsel Place.


Here's some more info on the incident that spurred the Hawk Alert Sunday night.

The University of Iowa notes that the Iowa City Police continue to search for leads, but they don't believe there is a safety threat in the area any longer.

On August 4, 2013 at approximately 10:05PM Iowa City Police received a report of an armed robbery of a Yellow Cab driver in the area of Samoa Dr. in Iowa City. The victim was contacted by telephone and responded to Samoa Dr. to pick up a passenger. While on Samoa Dr. the driver was approached by the suspect who displayed a handgun and demanded money.

The driver complied and the suspect fled on foot taking a quantity of cash. The suspect is described as a black male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt in his mid-20's.

The Iowa City Police Department is currently investigating the Robbery and is seeking the public's assistance in identifying the suspect. Iowa City Area Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1000 for information leading to the arrest of these suspects. Anyone with information about this crime is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 358-TIPS (8477). All calls are held in strict confidence and anonymity is guaranteed. Individuals providing information do not have to reveal their identity to collect a reward.
