Iowa City Police Investigate Armed Robbery Thanksgiving Morning

The armed robbery reportedly took place on Keokuk Street early Thursday morning.

 

Iowa City Police are looking for more information regarding an armed robbery in Iowa City this morning.

According to a police press release, at about 2:23 a.m., officers responded to Suburban BP at 1905 Keokuk St. after receiving a report of an armed robbery.

While on the way, officers were informed by dispatch that the suspect had pointed a small handgun at the employee and leaned over the counter and demanded cash from the register. The man then took off on foot in an unknown direction. Officers flooded the area in an attempt to locate the suspect, but were unable to detain him.

The female employee told the officers that the suspect who took the money was a black male, 5'6" - 5'8" in height with a slender build, wearing a dark jacket or sweatshirt, dark pants, a dark colored hair net on his head, and an additional covering over his nose and mouth. 

Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers is offering up to a $1000 cash reward for information leading to the arrest of this suspect. Anyone with information about this crime is urged to contact CrimeStoppers at 358-TIPS (8477). All calls are confidential and the caller's identity does not need to be revealed to collect the reward.
