Iowa City Police: Pizza Delivery Driver Reportedly Robbed at Gunpoint Last Night

The delivery driver arrived at the destination to find an armed man there demanding money.


A delivery driver reported to police that she was robbed last night as she was delivering a pizza 1700 BLOCK of Deforest Avenue, according to a media release from the Iowa City Police Department.

According to police, officers responded at 11:57 p.m. last night to that address for a report of an armed robbery. The driver told the police officers that she had been approached there by a Hispanic or white male who pointed a bag at her with what looked to her like a gun inside and demanded money.

The woman told police that he told her that he would shoot her if she did not comply with his demands. The woman then gave him the money and he fled in an unknown direction, according to the release. The woman was not injured during the encounter.

On April 23, 2012 at approximately 11:57 p.m., Iowa City Police Officers responded to the 1700 block of Deforest Ave. for a report of an armed robbery that had just occurred. The victim, a Papa John's Pizza driver, reported she had responded to that location to deliver a pizza. Upon her arrival, she got out of the car and a Hispanic male approached her, displayed what appeared to be a weapon inside a bag, and demanded cash. The suspect reportedly told the victim to give him the cash or he would shoot her. The victim complied and the male took an undisclosed amount of money and ran off in an unknown direction.

According to the release, the man was described as being approximately 30 years old and between five foot five inches and five foot seven inches in height. The woman said he had a heavyset build and wore a grey hoodie, blue jeans or jean shorts, dark hair, and had a light mustache.

Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers is offering a reward of up to $1000 for information leading to the arrest of these suspects.
