Iowa City Police: Man with Handgun Robs MidWestOne Bank

A bank robbery was reported Friday evening at MidWestOne Bank on Rochester Avenue. The suspect remains at large.

 

Police are looking for information on an armed suspect who robbed a MidWestOne Bank branch Friday evening.

According to police, at 5:27 p.m. on Friday, members of the police department were called to MidWestOne Bank at 2233 Rochester Ave. after receiving a report of an armed robbery. The suspect was searched for after police arrived but was not found. No injuries were reported related to the incident.

After speaking with witnesses and analyzing the security footage, police determined that a lone suspect, described as a white male, 5 foot, 8 inches tall and weighing 160 pounds entered the bank with a dark colored handgun and demanded money, leaving with an undisclosed amount before police arrived.

The man, shown in the attached photos, is described as wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, multi-colored work boots and his face was hidden by a black mask. In addition, he carried a red and black plaid backpack, according to the police report.

A suspect in similar black-hooded garb is being sought for a U.S. Bank branch last month.

Police are asking anyone with information related to the armed robbery on Friday night to call them at 319-356-5275.

Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers is also offering up to a $1,000 cash reward for information leading to the arrest of the man. Anyone with information about this crime should contact CrimeStoppers at 358-TIPS (8477). All calls are confidential and the person who gives information does not have to reveal their identity to receive the award.
