Iowa City Police: Intoxicated Man Arrested After Brandishing Handgun in Driveway

Upon the arrival of officers, the man swapped out a Blue Moon beer for the handgun, but this was not in time to prevent the arrest.

An Iowa City man armed with a Blue Moon beer was arrested last night at his residence and charged with a habitual alcohol offense.

According to an Iowa City Police criminal complaint, officers were called at 7:48 p.m. Thursday night to 135 Amherst Street for a man who had "a handgun in his driveway." When they arrived they observed a man, later identified as Francis Shane Granger, 48, of 135 Amherst Street with a handgun in his hand as was reported.

Upon seeing the officer, Granger allegedly went inside his residence. Police subsequently surrounded the home. After several minutes, Granger emerged into the backyard carrying a can of Blue Moon beer, according to the complaint. He is then ordered to the ground by officers.
