Iowa City Police Looking into String of Weekend Burglaries

A series of burglaries, potentially committed by a two man team, were reported on several streets south of Burlington Street over the weekend. The Iowa City police department is offering for $1,000 for info on the burglars.

From a press release from the Iowa City Police Department:

The Iowa City Police Department is currently investigating multiple burglaries to residences in the 400 - 600 blocks of S. Johnson St, S. Van Buren St, and S. Dodge St.

At least four burglaries were reported to police on July 16 - 17 between the hours of 11:00pm and 3:30am. At one of the locations the adult resident was inside his apartment when he heard a knock at the door.

When the resident did not answer two men attempted to force the door open. When the resident announced his presence the men fled. At another location the adult resident arrived home to find a man climbing out a broken window in the living room.

The men were described as one black male and one white male. The white male was described as stocky, 5'8", with brown hair and wearing a black shirt. The black male was described as stocky, 5'8", and was wearing a red shirt and had a white bandana covering his face.

Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers is offering a reward of up to $1000 for information leading to the arrest of these suspects. Anyone with information about these crimes is urged to contact CrimeStoppers at 358-TIPS (8477). All calls are held in strict confidence and anonymity is guaranteed. Individuals providing information do not have to reveal their identity to collect a reward.
