Iowa City Police: Local Man Accused of Selling Marijuana, Possessing $1,000 in Drug Proceeds

Police investigated the Iowa City man's apartment in late April.

An Iowa City man is facing charges of felony drug dealing after police say a search of his apartment revealed supplies consistent with marijuana dealing.

According to criminal complaints, police say on April 27 at 7:15 p.m. they executed a search warrant at the apartment of Javonte Marquis Nichols, 20, of Iowa City while he was not home at 2420 Barltelt Road. There they allegedly found $1,000 in cash in portions "consistent with proceeds from drug sales," along with 39 individual packages of marijuana, packaging materials, a digital scale, and a marijuana pipe.

For this, Nichols was charged with felony marijuana possession with intent to distribute, a drug-tax stamp violation (also a felony), and knowingly keeping drugs in a residence, an aggravated misdemeanor.
