Iowa City Police Investigating Armed Robbery on Burlington Street

A man reported to the police that he had money stolen from him after he had been sitting in a parking lot at 3:00 a.m. this morning.


Iowa City police are looking into a report of an armed robbery that was reported to them this afternoon.

According to an Iowa City police media release, on Saturday a man reported to police that he had been the victim of a robbery in the early morning hours. He said that approximately 3:00 a.m. this morning, he had been sitting in a parking lot on the 100 block of E. Burlington Street when he was approached by an African American man who asked him if he had any money, and then lifted up his shirt to display a handgun. When the victim gave his money to the man with the gun, the man reportedly fled on foot in an unkown direction

According to the release, the suspect in this crime is described as a dark complexioned African American male with long hair that was possibly in braids. He was reportedly wearing a black shirt and blue jeans at the time of the incident.

Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers is offering a reward of up to $1000 for information leading to the arrest of this suspect. Anyone with information about this crime is urged by police to contact CrimeStoppers at 358-TIPS (8477). All calls are confidential and the caller's identity does not need to be revealed to collect the reward.
